Graduate School Application Workshop

WSSLHA and WSU Student Academy of Audiology hosted a graduate workshop on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at 7:30 PM EST via Zoom.


WSSLHA and a few SAA Representatives presented topics that contributed towards developing noteworthy graduate school applications and provided sound advice for those who were interested in applying to graduate schools for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology nationwide. The agenda primarily concentrated on the areas of M.A. Speech-Language Pathology and Doctorate of Audiology application process, programs offered for both fields of study in Michigan and common programs out of state, GRE components and its respective prep materials, an introduction video to Casper, WSU Financial Aid and Graduate Scholarships, Graduate Interview Admissions tools, and Departmental Honors (refer to slides or ask Faith if interested).


M.A. Speech-Language Pathology at Wayne State University

Students who are interested in applying to the M.A. Speech-Language Pathology program at Wayne State University will be required to complete prerequisites and obtain an undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Those that have completed a different major will be required to pursue a Post-Baccalaureate degree in CSD.


Students will apply through CSDCAS and University Application, submit personal statements/essay (prompts are on CSDCAS), resume, obtain at least 3 letters of recommendation (2 from professors; 1 from professional or volunteer settings), GRE, and a transcript from every school that you’ve received college credit, even if it’s one credit. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA requirement to apply, however, a 3.5 is viewed as competitive. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021/2022 applicants will no longer be required to take the GRE, but are required to take the Casper test.


Doctorate of Audiology (AuD) at Wayne State University

Students who are interested in applying to the Doctorate of Audiology (AuD) program at Wayne State University must complete prerequisite coursework in Communication Sciences and Disorders and obtain a Bachelor's degree in any subject area of preference.


Students will apply through CSDCAS and University Application, submit personal statements/essay (prompts are on CSDCAS), resume, obtain at least 3 letters of recommendation (2 from professors; 1 from professional or volunteer settings), GRE, and a transcript from every school that you’ve received college credit, even if it’s one credit. Applicants must have a minimum of 3.0 to apply, however, a 3.5 is viewed as competitive. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021/2022 applicants will no longer be required to take the GRE, but are required to take the Casper test. Additionally, prospective students applying to the AuD program will be required to participate in an interview admissions process.


ASHA EdFind and CSDCAS

American Speech Hearing Association (ASHA) EdFind website helps individuals interested in applying to M.A Speech-Language Pathology and Doctorate of Audiology to find programs based on state, cultural emphasis, and many more!


CSDCAS is an online general application site that students can use to apply to participating Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology clinical education programs nationwide. This online application consists of personal information, academic history, supporting information, and program materials, which display the individual requirements for each school the applicant adds.


Interview Admission Tips

Applicants who are selected for the admissions interview, congratulations! If you are selected for the interview process, the interviewers recognize you as an excellent student who demonstrates leadership skills and passion. Focus on why you are a worthy candidate, demonstrate what makes you unique by talking about your hobbies, interests, extracurriculars, etc., and be ready to ask questions about the program. As always, make sure to get a good night’s rest and a small meal inside you so you are ready to face the day with that shining personality of yours!
