About Us

The Wayne Student Speech-Language Hearing Association (WSSLHA) is the NSSLHA chapter through Wayne State University for students studying Communication Sciences & Disorders. WSSLHA is open to CSD students anticipating a degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology and is intended to help connect students, fundraise, and raise awareness for the fields.

We host monthly meetings to discuss future events and fundraising opportunities. Some of our past events included hosting a "When I Stutter" movie screening with a Q&A and discussion following the movie with the director. We also host events such as an annual Multicultural Panelist Night and various conferences with SLPs and AuDs as guest speakers. This year, WSSLHA has also begun an outreach initiative at several local high schools.

Our past fundraising opportunities consisted of raising money to donate a cochlear implant, raising money for the Camp Shout Out for children with fluency disorders, and raising money for Detroit Public Schools as well as the Wayne State Speech Clinic.

We also host social events such as Halloween and Christmas parties for students in the organization to meet other students in the field.
